Assistance and training methodology

The coaching and training methodology developed by Toeleiding naar Arbeid plays an important role in the project. This methodology origins from experience and is innovative because not only the clients with occupational disabilities, but also employers and educators are extensively coached and trained. A hundred people with occupational disabilities as well as a hundred people working in education and from the employer's side may participate in Operatie Pelios.

  • The accompaniment according to Operatie Pelios is more intensive than regular accompaniment. There are more contact moments with clients than usual.
  • The emphasis is on discovering possibilities rather than be blinded by limitations.
  • People with occupational disabilities are prepared better for the expectations placed upon them in a business relationship.
  • Educators, internship mentors, vocational teachers, etc. are trained and accompanied, making regular education more accessible for people with occupational disabilities, finding work for more of these people and teaching them to actually function within the workplace.
  • Prejudice is reduced and the risk of disappointment minimized.
  • Expectations of employers and people with occupational disabilities are synchronized better.
  • Employers and people with occupational disabilities learn from each other and take advantage of that.
  • Employers are trained according to the so called "Gatekeeper Law", which intends to increase the employer's responsibility for reintegrating employees with illnesses and disabilities into the workforce. This should reduce the number of people ending up on disability benefits.
